Bissell Hair Removal Vacuum

Best Pet-Hair Removal Vacuum?!?

We are shopping for a new vacuum and with a cat and 2 dogs we are tired of our crawling baby getting covered in dog hair even after we vacuum! The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser was highest rated for pet hair removal on several consumer pick-lists, but after reading reviews I saw many complained of it breaking down after only a few months and getting easily clogged. What has been your experience? Anyone have a vacuum they love for pet hair removal? (SORRY – can’t afford a Dyson)
Thanks!

I went a couple models up from the pet hair eraser and got the Bissell Healthy Home. It’s got a 5 year warranty and a lifetime belt for just a little more money. It’s also got multi cyclonic filtering similar to Dyson and cleans the air as it sweeps with the HEPA filter.

I’m very happy with the machine and we have a house full of pets. We have 3 dogs (2 large and 1 small) and 4 cats so I know pet hair. It handles it all with little muss or fuss! I’ve only had 1 clogging issue in well over a year and that one was hubby’s fault. He sucked up a piece of cardboard and it stuck in the back of the unit. But the tubes back there are clear and it was easy to see. 4 screws and a quick clean out and I was back in business.

I’ve had several Bissells before this one and they all had one common place they liked to jam up but so far this one doesn’t. There is a small foam filter in a little tray that you pull out and wash. Things would stick in there and suction would go down hill and if I hadn’t been aware of it, probably would have burned out the motor over time. What you have to do is lay the unit on it’s back and get a flashlight and a pair of needle nosed pliers and pull the jammed up stuff out of there. Then you’re good to go again. And it doesn’t take much, just a piece of candy wrapper or tissue. But the Healthy Home doesn’t do that.

If you look around for a sale, you can get the Healthy Home for around $200; regular price is $250. It’s well worth the price. I’ve recommended the unit to several people and they are very happy with theirs also.

One tip – from time to time you will have to take the plastic housing off the suction unit (it pops right off and back on) and clean that out well with a brush. Dirt really sticks to the screen in there and I would think it would compromise suction if left get too bad. I just take mine outside and tap it with the brush and let all the dust fall out of there. And it also keeps the machine from getting that stinky cleaner smell to it also!

Depending on the breed and type of hair your dogs have, another tip for you to get more hair up is to take a clean spray bottle and fill it with warm water and a couple tablespoons of fabric softener. Cap the bottle and give it a good shake. Then mist the carpets and places where the dog hair accumulates and wait about 15 minutes; until it’s dry. The fabric softener helps break the static lock on the hair so the sweeper can suck it up better. I used to have to do that with the one sofa we had. The black lab liked to sleep up against the front of it and it was impossible to get the hair off without doing the fabric softener and water spray thing first.
